The links below are part of the toolkit for the primary care, prevention, evaluation and treatment of childhood/adolescent overweight and obesity that Dr. George Burghen (now professor emeritus and former chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center) and I have been developing and implementing over the last ten years in response to the pandemic of childhood obesity, described by the American Academy of Pediatrics as one of the new morbidities of the new millennium. Now well into the year 2011, obesity in all age groups continues to rise.
It is our hope that the use of these materials will help you in our mutual efforts to heal patients, respectful of the context of community and family, as we attempt to stem the tide of this serious condition and its co-morbidities.
Each of our suggestions is heavily referenced in the medical literature, the explosion of supporting literature continuing to support the recommendations in the "Guidelines for Healthy Living." If you have any suggestions, we would appreciate your letting us know, as well as your sharing experiences in actual practice and use of these tools.
